Color Affection
My love affair with knitting continues…and when I get to knit stripes I'm in heaven!!
This is the hugely popular Color Affection shawl by Veera Valimaki using 3 different colours of fingering or lace weight yarn. I used Madelinetosh Merino Light in Ink, Mourning Dove and Silver Fox.
This yarn is beautifully soft and light and just perfect for a shawl. I have to say though - I'm not really a shawl wearer so I will probably wear it more as a chunky scarf like this
The shawl starts with a cast on of only 5 stitches and then has lots of increases. For some reason I used to get my m1L totally wrong and end up with holes so this project has been great to get me used to increases and now I'll always remember them. It's all garter stitch and uses short rows to get the diagonal offset of stripes. Short rows sound tricky but they're not at all. The yarn is carried along the edge of the shawl for each colour change so there is no cutting or weaving in ends as you go.
You can find it on Ravelry here.
